OSCAR
is my first non-rhyming picture book. Oscar looks like all his
mean and nasty relatives, but he IS different. Yet the bush

There were snorts and giggles from the classroom crowd.
The teacher would frown and say, "Tut, tut!"
And Horatio's mouth would close - tight shut.

be found where adjectives and verbs hung out-not to mention
trees that talked. And Black Crow? He was pure evil. Will Daisy
gather wonderful words? Will she survive being kidnapped? Absolutely.

When
Frannie's dad was transferred to Oregon, she worried about going
to a new school, and why she and her twin, Jeff, weren't really
close. Frannie also dreamed about her missing Mom, and wondered
why she had never returned to them. Ghosts, a long ago murder,
and helping to trap a killer were not on her private "worry"
list. Yet a late night visit from a scary apparition, trailing
long gray veils and begging for Frannie's help, changed everything.
Frannie and the ghost, who was amazingly kind and friendly,
put their heads together and planned revenge. A chilling encounter
in the basement, and the appearance of the ghost's familiar,
an arachnid of gargantuan size, persuaded twin Jeff to help
them track and trap Thelma Hill's killer. Using the internet
to trap the killer was dangerous. When the panicked and treacherous
killer pays a midnight visit to their basement, the trap is
sprung. Later, when the hoo-hah of the capture dies down,Thelma
Hill finally brings news of Frannie's mom.
This story is dear to my heart. It took me back
to my Aussie roots. I hope it takes you there as well.
When
a reluctant grandson in Oregon is pressured into writing to
his grandma in Australia, wonderful things happen. Both have
a need for love and reassurance as they deal with their everyday
problems. Back and forth the letters go: Josh shares his daily
problems, and Grandma Rose shares past memories that astonish
her grandson and his friend Kelly.
The
Xbox gathers dust, as the two friends find themselves bike riding
and bird watching - and actually reading. Googling the weird
and wonderful Aussie critters that come to Rose's garden becomes
a fun hobby. Soon, Andy and Gradma Rose shrink the Pacific Ocean
into a puddle they can easily ford.

Taconi

wrote "Taconi and Claude" with
reluctant readers in mind -
especially boys!
Set
in the Aussie outback, on Coorparoo Cattle Station, Taconi,
a young aboriginal boy, deals with what life throws at him,
including a lot of advice from his chatty mate, a sulfur crested
cockatoo named Claude.
It's
not easy being an aboriginal boy in the Aussie outback of
the mid 1900's. Taconi has nightmares about his upcoming "man"
ceremony, and ancient Dreamtime Spirits stalk him with plans
of their own. Tales from the Dreamtime, told around a celebration
fire, offer tribal history. Stories from his dad offer a glimpse
of life away from Coorparoo Station, + the chance to train
as a Jackaroo.
He
dodges a nasty Medicine Man who wants him gone, helps his
dad become station "cookie," and ends up a hero
of sorts, thanks to a crazed emu. All this, plus enough
witchetty grubs, snake and yabbies for a bonzer soup. And
when he Dreamtime spirits finally come for him, Claude is
there to offer advice.

Grandsons Andy and Bindi battle to
survive in the Aussie outback.
Drama,
and sibling rivalry fuel this adventure, with a nasty threat
thrown in for the kicker. Circumstances force longtime friends,
Josh Howard and Bindi, into going Walkabout together.
The
Aussie outback is harsh, hot, and unforgiving - if the wild
dingoes don't get them, eating witchetty grubs might. The
threat he made to his brother Tom nags at Josh, and lies between
he and Bindi don't make things easier. If Josh ever wants
to see Coorparoo Cattle Station Homestead again, he had better
keep in good with Bindi.
Anger
simmers when a crazed Medicine Man wants Josh dead, and later,
he learns about the mysterous Dreamtime Spirits from a tribal
elder. At night, by the camp fire, he mulls over why Tom hates
him and what he can do about it.
